Rainhill
is an area in the centre of Merseyside,
not far from St.
Helens and Huyton.

Rainhill include Rainhill Stoops, Whiston,
Eccleston Park, Thatto Heath and Sutton
Manor.
Rainhill is conveniently located close to
junctions 7 and 8 of the M62 motorway. It
is also on the railway line between Liverpool
and Manchester.
Rainhill is probably best-known for the
famous "Rainhill Trials" that took place
in 1829. At this historic event several
steam locomotives competed to be used on
the first steam train service. The event
was won by "Stephenson's Rocket". It is
possible to visit the location of this event
and see the station.
