is an area in the centre of Merseyside, not far from St.
Helens and Huyton. Other places in the immediate area around Rainhill include Rainhill Stoops, Whiston, Eccleston Park, Thatto Heath and Sutton Manor.
Rainhill is conveniently located close to junctions 7 and 8 of the M62 motorway. It is also on the railway line between Liverpool and Manchester.
Rainhill is probably best-known for the famous "Rainhill Trials" that took place in 1829. At this historic event several steam locomotives competed to be used on the first steam train service. The event was won by "Stephenson's Rocket". It is possible to visit the location of this event and see the station.
