St. Briavels, Gloucestershire
Gliding peacefully across beautiful countryside early on a summer morning, or in the evening is an unforgettable experience. Unlike other aircraft, you can watch the hot air balloon being assembled before your eyes - just like a giant tent ! Then climb aboard and admire the view from the basket - no doors closed, or windows to sit behind, it's all out in the fresh air. Fantastic !
The village of St. Briavels is situated on an 800ft limestone plateau with splendid views over the Wye Valley south of the Forest of Dean. It is located less than 2 miles from the Herefordshire border and Offa’s Dyke. The ancient castle, now a youth hostel but once the administrative centre of the Royal Hunting Forest, The B4228 passes to the east of the village with only a minor road in the easterly direction across the heights to Bream or down to the banks of the River Severn at Lydney.
