Chalford, Gloucestershire
Gliding peacefully across beautiful countryside early on a summer morning, or in the evening is an unforgettable experience. Unlike other aircraft, you can watch the hot air balloon being assembled before your eyes - just like a giant tent ! Then climb aboard and admire the view from the basket - no doors closed, or windows to sit behind, it's all out in the fresh air. Fantastic !
The Gloucestershire village of Chalford is situated in a narrow, deep, and well wooded valley eventually opening onto the Severn Plain. The large hillside houses once belonged to wealthy cloth manufacturers and the cottages used for spinning and weaving cloth are still to be seen in the village. Chalford is located on the northern bank of the River Frome and to the north of the A419. It is 4 miles south-east of Stroud, and 8 miles west of Cirencester. The remains of round and long barrows as wellas a Roman Villa are to be seen within the parish of Bisley to the north and around Chalford.
