From
the Anglo Saxon meaning ‘water meadow’,
Northiam is just less than 6½ miles
northwest of Rye,
which can be reached by the A28 and A268.
By travelling southwest along the A28 and
A21, Hastings
can be met within just fewer than 7½
miles. Less than 2 miles north of Northiam
flows the River Rother. Again just north
of Northiam, set in beautiful countryside
is the Great Dixter House and Gardens, what
was once an army hospital during WWI. Slightly
to the west of the Northiam sits the Brickwell
House and Gardens.
