market town of Tavistock is located on the
western edge of the Dartmoor National Park
and approximately 15 miles from Plymouth
and 40 miles from Exeter. It is located
at the junction of the A386 Okehampton /
Plymouth, A390 Liskeard (Cornwall), B3357
Two Bridges and B3362 Lauceston (Cornwall).
The River Tavy flows through the town and
continues south to join the River Tamar.
The town’s busy main street provides a mixture
of new and old buildings, with the covered
market nearby and many attractive gardens
around the town. The town is the birthplace
of and proudly displays a statue of Sir
Francis Drake.
