The
town of Okehampton lies on the fringe of
Dartmoor, located in the centre of Devon
and accessible from the east along the A30
dual carriageway to Exeter and beyond to
the M5 Motorway. To the west the A30 provides
a route to Cornwall. The area around Okehampton
varies greatly from the peaks of Dartmoor
(Yes Tor at 600m), with ancient trackways,
peat bogs forming valley sides and many
streams flowing over and through cracked
granite boulders. There are many camping
and caravan sites alongside the A386, from
Lydford in the south-west to Widden Down
in the south-east, and upwards to Sampford
Courtney to the north. These reflect the
area’s popularity with tourists !
