a new experience to your trip to Devon.
If you're lucky enough to live in this beautiful
area, then how about seeing it from a different
perspective ?
The
hilltop town of Great Torrington is situated
at the crossing of the A386 (Okehampton
/ Bideford) and the B3227 (South Molton)
and the meeting of the B3232 (Barnstaple)
and the A3124 (Widdon Down). From the south,
the River Torridge flows close to the town
and northwards to the estuary at Bidedford,
9 miles from Great Torrington. From the
town’s car park on Castle Hill the bracken
and gorse covered slopes, contoured with
well kept pathways, fall steeply to an open
common below.
The Town Hall, Market House, Plough Theatre
and Arts Centre serve a community with several
thriving industries one of which is the
Dartington Glass Factory. In a sheltered
valley to the south of the town lies the
Rosemoor Gardens, and along the A386 at
Merton is the Barometer World museum.
