fishing Village and holiday resort of St
Ives is situated on the Atlantic coast of
Cornwall, just within the curve of St. Ives
Bay. It is reached beyond Carbis Bay along
the A3074 from the village of Lelant on
the west bank of the River Hayle. The surfing
beach of Porthmeor is separated from the
harbour and smaller beach of Porthminster
by ‘The Island’ and the once ‘upalong’ community
of miners is here, but separated from the
‘downalong’ area of the fishing industry.
