The small town of Saltash is located on the steep western banks of the River Tamar across the river from Plymouth. It is by-passed by the A38 which crosses the river, but is linked to Plymouth by the vehicular / passenger ferry arriving at its quayside and Brunnel’s (broad-gauge railway) Royal Albert Bridge.
